Attention Newbies! Posted on June 16, 2016

Attention Newbies!! Fishing tournaments let you enjoy fishing but also sparks that competitive urge that most of us have. Join the fraternity, it is lots of fun and gives both men and women a chance to compete and win. The cost for non-members per tournament is $50 per team plus $10 each for insurance. Part of the registration fee is for the "Lunker Prize", Largest Fish of the tournament.

Boats in our tournaments range from small boats with small motors to the big bass boats. Last year several small boats finished in the top 15 so you can certainly compete with the larger boats. Knowledge of the lake to be fished in is helpful but not necessary. You will need a boat, live well/large cooler and a portable aerator.

Tournaments start at 7 a.m. and finish at 2 p.m. You must be back at the launch by 2 p.m. Weigh-in of your fish starts shortly after 2 p.m. It is a good idea to show up at the launch site an hour or so before the start time, the earlier the better. Launch your boat and ask where to park your truck and trailer. Pull your boat up to the shore and hang around the launch area. You can register at the launch site with cash or a cheque. AT 6:45 there will be a short meeting and the draw to select starting times occurs. Your weigh-slip will be drawn and your starting place written on the back. You need to keep your weigh-slip in a safe, dry place because you will need it when you weigh your fish in later in the day. Our starts are called a trickle start with the numbers called out starting at one. Fishing equipment can be as simple as one rod and some bass baits or as complicated as you want to make it. Remember that live or prepared baits are not allowed and also no trolling is allowed.

Read over the rules, they are available on this web site but a few you must be aware of are:
" Minimum size for a fish is 9 inches
" Keep your fish alive.
" Weigh in 5 fish
" You are allowed to weigh-in 1 dead fish
" You are not allowed on the lake after the previous Sunday before the tournament
" Make sure that you are back to the launch site on time
" Have fun!

If you have any questions please call Carroll Randall at 543-3372.

2016 SSBM season news Posted on April 17, 2016

Evening fellow SSBM members, just passing along a couple updates to you for the upcoming season. Another reminder of the 2016 tournaments.

June 19th Molega lake
July 3rd Ponhook Lake
July 17th Big Mushamush Lake
August 14th Ten Mile Lake
September 11th Mersey River

FYI. The Atlantic Bass Open will be July 30th and 31st while the NSBCC will be October 8th
Also, due to a simply overwhelming amount of time and effort used up by my business, I have had to step down as SSBM club president. It is not something that I have done on a whim as I do enjoy working for the betterment of the club and all of it’s members. The club started in 1998 and is now going into it’s 19th summer of operation and this would be, as far as I can count lol, the start of my 14th summer as president in total. Though I will miss, of course, my interaction with my fellow executive members I will also miss the extra level of involvement with all club members and our activities. I trust that my dogged determination to make the SSBM trail the best that I thought it could be proved fruitful for most members as a whole. We have a great group of folks, continue to offer the province’s largest trail and stay involved in many activities at many different levels. Until such time that the position can be filled by proper elections, Cody Lohnes will be assuming President responsibilities. Please welcome him and do your best to support him in the interim. Thanks everyone for your dedication, it has been fun but now I need to free up some more time for work and hopefully get back to just fishing the trail for fun myself in the time being. I am still using my available time for RBANS and of course, the Atlantic Bass Open (ABO) so I will not be too far away. Thanks again, take care.

Upcoming March Meeting - Posted on June 3, 2012

A reminder folks that our first event of 2012 is fast approaching, we’ll be taking to Ten Mile Lake on Sunday, June 17th for a 7 AM blast-off.
A few notes leading into our first event:
· We will have our annual fund-raiser raffle tickets available for hand-out at this tournament, please ensure you grab some books from Carroll Randall or George Taylor, please remember, these funds are important for club activities and our banquet.
· Registration is being handled in the morning by the team of Peter Lavender and Robert Mailman, please look for them and their truck in the main weigh area before tournament hours to register your team or renew membership.
· This year we will be running with simplified forms to make the morning work even simpler for the volunteers involved. The size of the forms are ½ sheet now and double sided. On side one is the condensed tournament entry form and on side two is the condensed membership renewal form. Now one paper will register a team and sign up a member at the same time, making it much easier to handle the paperwork early in the morning.
· Since we usually have a larger number of membership renewals at the first event, please do your best to meet Peter and Robert upon arrival so that we can hopefully prevent a delay in blast-off due to paperwork.
· We plan on having a little meeting prior to blast-off to meet our meeting requirements and update any business currently on the go.
· Please remember that our tournament entry fee is now $50 for everybody but if someone is a non-member, they will need to pay our new $10.00 insurance fee per person. Lunker pool is still included and we are using the same prize structure/trophies as last year.
New tournament trail posters were printed this weekend and are now ready to be posted around the South Shore, please keep an eye out for them as we will do our best to get them into some key locations this coming week.
Hope to see everyone at the tournament and enjoy your fishing.

Results of Meeting - Posted on March 26, 2012

The club held its additional meeting to go over some important topics, most importantly, club insurance. The club has agreed to get insurance pending a certain dollar limit which we hope to have secured in the near future.
The funding of insurance therefore was the next topic on the list, it was decided that after 14 years of the same fee, it was time to raise membership fees in order to reflect the additional insurance being provided to the member. Therefore, Junior memberships are now $10, Senior memberships are now set at $25, and Family Memberships at $40. To ensure that there was no disadvantage to the member by paying extra over non-member teams, the cost of the non-member tournament entry was reduced to $50, but a $20 insurance fee is now being charged bringing the total non-member tournament entry fee to $70.
With the committment of the insurance from the club, the executive chose to keep their respective positions and the club agreed.

Mersey - Final Tournament - Posted on October 15, 2011

The SSBM tournament trail has officially come to a close today. Twenty eight teams took to the Mersey River for the sixth and final tournament of the year. Temperatures were warm, but severe wind gusts and post storm conditions made for very tough fishing! On this day however, Reg Kendrick and sub Ian Ross found 11.45lbs of fish for first place, in addition to the lunker of 3.14lbs. Great bag for a tough day of fishing!
With this marks the conclusion of the Team of the year race. After a final moment nail biter, the former team of the year Mark and Millage Weare would lose by tie breaker, to new Team of the year winners Jimmy Graham and Adam Hallet. Congratulations on a great year to both teams!

Molega Tournament - Posted on September 11, 2011

The SSBM season is slowly reaching an end with the conclusion of the 5th of 6 SSBM tournaments for 2011. Today, the SSBM anglers took to Molega Lake in Queens County. The day started out very cold at close to freezing, and thick fog. It was not long after that the sun came out and made for a perfect day weather wise.
No huge bags were caught on this day, but there were many consistent bags accross the board.
Today, it was Matt Randall who took lunker with 3.58lbs and the team of Mark & Millage Weare capturing the win with 9.6lbs. This win catapults Mark & Millage to the top of the Team of the Year standings with a 3 point lead over Jimmy Graham and Adam Hallet going into the final tournament on the Mersey River. It will indeed be a close race so be sure to attend!
On a serious side note, the SSBM executive and anglers would like to extend a get well soon and best wishes to committed SSBM member Dennis Lavender who was unable to make it to the tournament today due to health concerns. Get well soon and hope to see you on the water again Dennis!

Ten Mile Tournament - Posted on August 21,2011

We are now officially three quarters of the way done the 2011 SSBM tournament trail. Today the SSBM anglers took to the waters of Ten Mile Lake in Queens County. It was an excellent showing of 36 boats! The weather was great but the fishing was quite tough for the most part, however, as always, there were a few boats who managed to find some good fish!
On this day, it was Reg Kendrick and Angela Kendrick taking 1st place honors with a 8.21lb bag of smallmouth, anchored by a 4.19lb smallmouth. Also making headline news was the team of Peter Lavender and Rob Mailman. They place second with 8lbs even, however, more importantly was their lunker for the day. A 21" 4.68lb brute. This would indeed make a new club record, ultimately winning the "snowball prize." The snowball prize was an amount of $250 dollars each year donated by Cook and sons financial, accumulating, untill the SSBM club record lunker was broken. Great job to Peter and Rob for catching this monster, and congratulations to Reg and Ang for the big win! Next up is Molega Lake in September!

Mersey Tournament - Posted on July 24,2011

The third instalment of the 2011 SSBM tournament trail has come to an end today on the Mersey River, pool #4 in liverpool. Weather was excellent and fishing was pretty consistent accross the board, making the weights extremely close. However, on this day it was multiple team of the year winners Mark & Millage Weare who stole the show with a 1st place and lunker prize finish. This finish boosts Mark & Millage to first place in the Team of the Year standings. All stats and standings are now posted. I would like to give a big thank you to Bill Roy and Scott Wilson for volunteering and doing the weigh board duties at the weigh-in. This is extremely helpful to the executive. It would be great to see two new volunteers for the next tournament at Ten Mile Lake, please e-mail myself or Mark if you would be so kind to volunteer. Thank you, and see you at Ten Mile in August.

Mush Tournament - Posted on July 10,2011

Another 2011 SSBM tournament is in the books. The temperatures were warm, however, strong gusts made fishing at times difficult. That did not prevent the SSBM teams from bringing in some excellent Big Mush bags of smallmouth. On this day, it was once again Richard Hiltz/Peter Blakeney with 1st place with 15.98lbs and a monster 4.57lb brute for the lunker! See all of the stats in the tournament trail page.

SSBM meeting results - Posted on December 19th, 2010
SSBM held a meeting today at the Italy Cross firehall to discuss pertanent club topics and more importantly, the dates and lakes for the 2011 season. Mark would like the club to think about the financial position of the club in terms of potentially changing either the fee or payout structure for 2011. The executive wants to ensure that the club remains financially stable given the downturn in turnouts / raffle revenue. This will be discussed at the AGM in the spring.
Carroll Randall would also like the club to think about joining him in organizing a event on Ponhook lake for kids. It would involve members and using their boats to accomodate kids for a day on the lake as a way to create awareness of fishing for kids. Carroll would like to further discuss this and create a concrete date at the AGM in the spring. A tentative date for the spring AGM was set by the executive/members for March 27th, 2011.
After a lengthy discussion, it was decided by the members that there would be a 6th tournament, for points, during the 2011 season. As a result, the 2011 SSBM tournament trail is as follows: (pending government approval)
June 19th - Ponhook Lake
July 10th - Big Mush-a-Mush Lake
July 24th - Mersey River
August 21st - Molega Lake
September 11th - Ten Mile Lake
October 15th - Mersey River

Banquet completed -
Posted on November 1, 2010
The SSBM season has officially come to a close. The annual SSBM banquet was held this Saturday night at the Hebbs Cross firehall.
Although attendance was down slightly, the banquet was still a great success with one of our best meals to date, some great door prizes, and a dance afterwards.
With the help of some amazing prizes donated by various folks including Veinottes Gone Fishing, Pineapple Creek, T.Nauss Contractors, LMB Construction(Bill Roy), Queens Chrysler (Dennis Lavender), and Castle Building Supplies (Peter Lavender), the club was able to raise in excess of $250 dollars! Thank you to all who donated towards the door prizes!
I have updated the pictures page to include three pages worth of pictures from the banquet. Mark will be in touch with the members soon to plan our fall meeting to choose our lakes and dates for the 2011 season.

October 16th - Mersey River
